Explore your leadership qualities

Things that make good leaders
By Debbie Vergara

We all have leadership qualities; there is not one of us who doesn’t. Some have natural leadership qualities, and for others it has to be learned. We just have to find the strength within to be a leader. We can all reach our full leadership potential by doing well in everything we try to accomplish, whether it be at home, school, with friends, hobbies, family… you name it. Whatever it is, you can do your best!

To develop leadership skills you should first learn to let go of your ego. Having a chip on your shoulders will not allow room for growth. One should also have a purpose, a vision, meaning this is something you “want” to do, not something you “have” to do. You should have an enthusiasm for your work or what you believe in.

You can use teamwork to overcome any crisis that comes your way. When people work together as a team, they feel they’re doing something that matters, to themselves as individuals or to the world at large. People are usually more intelligent together than they are apart, as everyone has a different view to lend the situation.

By doing this you will feel as though you are growing and enhancing your creative skills. You will feel free to try new things, to take risks. You will have the ability to work with others, to act towards a common goal, to gain respect and to learn to hear others’ words as they listen to your words. Your feelings will be heard. As future leaders of our world your task is to make the world a better place for us all to live in.

Explore different cultures, build confidence, and enhance different decision making skills. All this can be fun and challenging, and you have the POWER to do this. Don’t just stay in your part of the city, in only your ethnicity; explore! See how different people live, and you will see that we aren’t different after all…that we are all the same. It’s just our nationalities that make us different, our cultures.

You have the opportunity to set aside your differences and see what is at stake. Just look around you and you will see what that is. Are you willing to make a change? Let us make the world a better place…be a leader, not a follower.
